Serbian delegation visits The Netherlands

07 December 10

From 11 to 15 October 2010, a Serbian delegation visited our country in the framework of a cooperation between Serbia and The Netherlands, with regard to improving public participation in nature conservation. The project is funded through the MATRA programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation included the following participants:

  • Mr. Slobodan Puzovic, Provincial secretary, Autonomous Province of Vojvodina

  • Ms. Biljana Panjkovic, Director of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Vojvodina Province

  • Mr. Dobrivoje Antonic, General Director, Fruška Gora National Park

  • Mr. Goran Matic, Manager, Fruška Gora National Park

  • Mr. Vladimir Stojanovski, General secretary, Camping Association of Serbia

  • Mr. Boris Saulic, President, Balkan Urban Movement

  •

The aim of the study visit was to inform the delegation on methods used in The Netherlands for managing national parks and Natura 2000 areas. Visits were conducted to:

  • The Serbian Ambassador in The Hague

  • The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation

  • Staatsbosbeheer en Natuurmonumenten

  • Natura 2000 protected area St. Pietersberg (Maastricht) and ENCI

  • National Park 'Weerribben-Wieden' (Steenwijkerland)

  • National Park 'De Hoge Veluwe'

Together with Serbian partners, Ameco, STIDIT and Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch State Forest Management) will continue their work on the further implementation of the project: developing a management strategy and an implementation program for Fruška Gora National Park. The management strategy will include all nature related targets, but also indicates how the park can be developed economically. Since, in addition to protective measures, income-generating activities are important as well, including for example the realization of sustainable campsites, offering courses and activities, realization of overnight accommodation, opening restaurants and shops in visitor centres, etc.

For more information about the project, send an e-mail or fill out the contact form.
