The international timber market is currently facing many developments. In March 2013 the new European Timber Regulation (EUTR) will come into force. The EUTR aims to ensure that only legally produced timber enters the European market. The Regulation will have major impact, not only on European timber importers, but especially on small-scale producers in exporting countries.

Ameco is following these developments closely and has developed a plan in cooperation with S-for-S Sustainable Forest Services to increase awareness on the new regulations in producer countries. Ameco is planning to guide small-scale local exporters in the process of becoming Verified Legal Compliance (VLC) certified. With a VLC certificate, producers can demonstrate they comply with their national legal framework and thereby ensure access to the European market.
