Armenia-Georgia: cross-border initiatives launched
06 June 11
The municipalities of Alaverdi, Tashir, Vanadzor, Dilijan and Ijevan in Armenia and neighbouring municipalities Bolnisi, Dmanisi, Marneuli and Ninotsminda in Georgia have officially launched a number of local initiatives to foster regional development through cross-border cooperation.
The launch follows a period of intense and interactive communication between the nine municipalities, the project team and interested parties who worked together to conceptualise the cross-border activities. As a result, the initiatives reflect a variety of needs and diversity of interests, including environmental protection, tourism development, youth involvement and stimulation of local business enterprises.
The launch coincides with ongoing training on participatory governance and project cycle management and planning for future participation in joint workshops on pilot projects for increasing exposure of - and improving communication and cooperation between - the border municipalities.
