Medical waste incinerators installed in Georgia

06 August 14

Ameco has been working on the development and implementation of a national management system for infectious medical waste in Georgia. Management of hazardous waste, including infectious medical waste, is currently not yet included in national legislation. In practice, this means that infectious medical waste is often not separated from other waste and is jointly dumped on uncontrolled dumpsites. The health and environmental risks are very high. Goal of the management system is therefore to effectively separate, collect and neutralise infectious medical waste.

Ameco is responsible for the development of a master plan for improved management, the development of training curricula for personnel of hospitals and care facilities and the procurement of two large medical waste incinerators.

These two incinerators have recently been installed and will become operational in the coming period after being tested in order to optimise the incinerating process.
